THE FAMILY AND THE COMPANY

It was the 1880s. A stern, proud and even somewhat arrogant Count Ignazio de Terzi Lana would lean on his elegant silver-handled cane to survey his land. His noble style and lofty ideas were clearly inspired by those of Cavour. As he firmly set his sights on political aspirations, he decided to entrust the management of his Borgonato estate to the young Francesco Berlucchi. Youthful and charming as he was, Francesco stole the heart of Ignazio’s seventeen-year-old daughter Giustina, leading to their fruitful, long-lasting marriage and the birth of five children. Among these, the sons, Ignazio and Antonio, would carry on the honourable family name by way of their numerous offspring. On Ignazio’s side, Lina, Laura and Guido Berlucchi. While Antonio’s children are Francesco, Gabriella, Marcello, Roberto and Pia Donata.

Firmly rooted to the land that raised them while nurturing connections with the rest of the world. This is the style of the Berlucchi family. Today, its third generation – Nicola, Tilli, Alessandro, Elena, Antonio, Ignazio, Antonello, Gabriella, Lorenzo, Matteo and Sebastiano – continues to lead one of the most well-loved and esteemed wineries in Franciacorta. Respect for tradition, hard work and for people – the family values inherited from their parents – merge with an international style that adapts to current fast-changing tastes and passions.

1927 TO THE PRESENT

1927 marks the year when Antonio Berlucchi and his wife Antonia founded the agricultural company with the intention of selling their outstanding wines. However, it would be their five children – Francesco, Gabriella, Marcello, Roberto and Pia Donata – who would unite the family’s efforts to create a new identity rooted in tradition: the Azienda Agricola Fratelli Berlucchi. Their solid foundations and entrepreneurial spirit rapidly created one of the most advanced wineries in the region, registered as the first DOC in Franciacorta in 1967.

Today, the winery practises sustainable cultivation across its 70 hectares of vineyards using the Guyot and permanent spurred cordon vine training systems, hand-harvesting all grapes as per tradition. The entire maturation and bottling process takes place within the family estate in Borgonato. The Fratelli Berlucchi’s wines, which have been produced since the 1900s and are now all branded FRECCIANERA, are distributed in some of the finest restaurants and wine shops across Europe, the United States, China, Japan and Central America.
